Some definite menu highlights and must-trys from the creative mind of Chef Chris Picek: Pici (salt pork, chili, plum tomato suace), the Vicino Antipasti for Two (a rotating selection of meats and cheese), and --on the sweeter side--buttermilk panna cotta with candied lemon.
It's set up to work as an old style take-out/eat-in grocery deli, where you can enjoy it in their space, or grab it to go if you are just on a quick lunch break. In the grocery aisle, Vicino is also filling a Vancouver niche for some hard-to-find ingredients, cheese, flour, and sauces (in other words, just about everything you need to make pizza or pasta at home). Did we mention that there are organic and gluten-free groceries as well?
But if we had to tell you one thing we were most impressed by, it would just have to be the pasta. Vicino has invested in a rather rare machine for mixing dough and extruding pasta, that actually has bronze dyes to form the pasta-- an attention to quality that really shows.
