Gastown's New Trading Post: The Board of Trade Co.

When you walk into Gastown's new The Board of Trade Co, it takes only a moment to feel inspired and totally immersed in their carefully curated goods. Part museum of amazing hand crafted artifacts (in this museum, you get to take them home with you) and part fashion hub for both men and women, it's a shop so beautiful and charming, it's no wonder there is not only one brain behind the business, but three.

The second location is a simple evolution from our first store" says Eunice Quan, co-owner with David Lin and Armin Tehrani.  "We have expanded on our concept and began the move in representing art objects in the store.  We created The Board of Trade Co with the notion that there are other consumers like us, who are looking for something fresh, unique and different."

It's a trading post of design, art and fashion.

"Too often we would walk into a boutique and see the same star-power brands carried time and time again"  says David Lin.  "Expanding on a current roster of local and international labels such as Painkiller, A Kind Of Guise, and I Love Ugly, The Board of Trade Co will focus on carrying useable objects that can be described as functional art."

Hand-built change rooms warm up their new heritage space. Young and burgeoning designers line the walls; Each piece has a little detail or accented quality to it that sets it apart. Drop crotch pants for men (by I Love Ugly), leather bralettes for women, and an array of dresses and shirts that all have unique silhouettes. They also have your basics covered with classic tees and chinos.

"We want to find those up and comers and stick with them," explains Armin, who is the newest addition to the team. "Bringing Armin on was really organic, things just come together and that's how we like it,'' says David.

Some brands include Me Here (Seattle), Grain Design (Seattle), Suzanne Sullivan Pottery (New York), Kiel Mead (New York), Serpent Sea Mats (New York), Reed Wilson (Colorado), Boyscouts (Europe) and 2550 Candles (Portland). They are also curating a selection of local Vancouver designers.

"With this store we want to focus on art objects," says David, "Gastown is a good men's hub -- so our focus is to offer 50/50 women's and menswear.

The Board of Trade Co is located at 206 Carrall.
