YULE DUEL 2016

GASTOWN

THURSDAY DECEMBER 1

6-9PM

It’s Carolling For A Cause!

When: December 1, from 6-9 PM.

Where: Along Water, Powell and Carrall Streets in Gastown.

What to expect: Choirs will be singing on specific streets and people can wander throughout to enjoy a diverse selection of carolling performances by over 20 of Vancouver’s top choirs, each with a unique style ranging from rock to pop to gospel. There are a number of opportunities for people to make donations to the groups they like best.

Why the “Duel” in Yule Duel? Throughout the evening choirs will perform their best, in hopes of competing in a sing-off on the main stage. Everyone is welcome to vote for their favourite choir, by buying a button for $5 and casting a vote. Near 8pm, the panel of celebrity judges will select their favourite choirs from those with the most votes.  The top two choirs will then ‘duel’ it out on stage.

Judges: This year’s judges include: Spencer Chandra Herbert, MLA Vancouver West End; Morna Edmondson, Elektra Women’s Choir; Mike Forrester, Coastal Jazz; Rebecca Bollwitt, Miss 604; Heather Deal, Vision Councilor, Kaitlyn Herbst; Global TV presenter; Micheal Boucher, SFU School of Contemporary Arts; and Ariane Colenbrander, writer and photographer.

James O’Mara

Inform Interiors

November 29th

5pm to 7pm

We will be joined by Photographer James O’Mara in conversation with Vicki Gabereau. The discussion will be followed by signings of O’Mara’s latest publication Encounters, available for purchase at the event.

His photographic art can be approached in as many ways as the poetry residing in it. Discussing his work, O’Mara says, “I try to approach every adventure in life as if it were a dance. I need that pulse, that rhythm.” In fact, in his pictures we can perceive not only the moment captured by the camera lens, but also a “before” and an “after.”

He has the ability to grasp the dynamics of the scene, even in perfectly still subjects: the ephemeral moment, the instant in which a figure reveals his or her nature or events show new meanings.
