The 2019 Global Relay Gastown Grand Prix

This July 10th, the cobblestones in Gastown will rattle as pro class cyclists from around the world compete in North America’s largest criterium race. The Global Relay Gastown Grand Prix, now in its 45th year, transforms the neighbourhood into a streetwide race track that see riders speeding by at up to 60km/hour. It ‘s thrilling to watch and free to attend. The GGP boasts the highest one day prize purse for both the winning prize and total prize purse for a Canadian Criterium. With over 20,000 spectators in attendance it’s sure to be an electrifying experience. A criterium, or crit, is a bike race consisting of several laps around a closed circuit, the length of each lap or circuit ranging from about 800 m to 10,000 m. In addition to the race, riders compete for bonus prizes (primes) consisting of cash and bike equipment.
