Gastown in August

Gastown: Here to Stay
Hey you! Remember us? You know, the neighbourhood that started it all? The vibrant, stylish, yet historic hood right down the street from you? Don’t worry, we haven’t forgot about you.
Times may be changing, but Gastown continues to leverage its deep past to keep the neighbourhood moving forward. Here are just a few of the things that you have to look forward to this month.
Meet you at the new pop-up Maple Tree Plaza? Perfect, we’ll be there keeping it fresh.
Oh, Happy Day!
Who ever said that Happy Hour needed to be constricted to a couple of “hours”?
Gastown Thursdays are back and we’re celebrating it the best way we know how – with a full day of Happy Hour specials. Shop + dine at these participating hot spots every Thursday throughout the summer and be treated like Gastown royalty all day long. Besides, you deserve it.
View the full list of ‘happy day’ specials here.
Support Local & Win
We’re launching the new summer Passport Program on August 13th and everyone is invited to join the fun. Here’s the deats:
- Pick-up your passport at participating Gastown businesses
- Support five Gastown businesses for your chance to win a weekly prize (prizes will vary and come from all local businesses)
- Enter by tagging @mygastown and the businesses that you have supported on Instagram with a photo of the completed passport
- Winner to be announced every Monday
- Contest runs weekly from Aug. 13 – Sept. 28.
Like what you see? Now get out there and support #ourgastown. We need you right now!
Gastown Unplugged
Businesses Supporting Local Artists
Now that Patiotown is in full swing it’s time kick it up a notch.
Gastown Unplugged is a new pop-up music series set in multiple locations throughout Gastown. The best part, its a initiative put on by our businesses to help support local artists. From jazz to slow jams and everything in between, you can now enjoy live music from the comfort of your favourite patio or while walking down the cobblestone streets.
Music to be announced one day in advance through the @mygastown Instagram page.
While we’re over here counting the days until Vancouver Mural Festival begins, here’s a sneak peek at what we have been working on with VMF for our own neighbourhood. Artist Tyler Toews is taking us on a journey inside the garbage bins of Gastown and it’s not pretty…
Stay tuned as we announce more on the Waste Wear pilot project; A part of a much larger campaign to help highlight strategies and bring awareness to a zero waste culture.
Also a gentle reminder that The Murals of Gratitude outdoor exhibition can be viewed in the alleyway north of Water St. between Carrall and Abbott St. from now until the end of summer. In case you missed it, the gallery is 100% Dr. Bonnie Henry approved.
Rumour has it that VMF is also launching its new Mobile App so that you can discover the city’s open-air gallery of murals on free, daily guided tours. You can check out the Gastown garbage bin project and the Murals of Gratitude Outdoor Gallery in the VMF App starting August 18th.
From patios to picnics and all the special offers in between – Dine Out Vancouver invites you, food and drink lovers, to safely and carefully savour this 21st century renaissance, our fabulous summer weather, and our city’s exceptional restaurants and pubs to not just dine out again, but to dine outside, Vancouver style.
