VFS Indigenous Peoples Scholarship

In support of the continued growth of Indigenous artists, Vancouver Film School (VFS) is pleased to once again offer the Indigenous Peoples Scholarships for the Creative Industry Art.

With full and partial-tuition scholarships available, the fund is valued at up to $162,000 for Indigenous students to enrol in any VFS full-time program of their choice.

Congratulations Jennifer & Gino

Shout out to Jennifer Rossi from Kitchen Table Group (Pourhouse & Di Beppe) under the category Women in Hospitality, and Gino Di Domenico from Tacofino under the category Local Champion, for their amazing achievement of being inducted in the BC Restaurant Hall of Fame.

This year’s inductees will join the almost 100 individuals whose contributions have been forever commemorated in the BC Restaurant Hall of Fame to date, and will be honoured in the 19th Annual BC Restaurant Hall of Fame’s induction ceremony this October 23rd.

Global Relay Gastown Grand Prix

The Global Relay Gastown Grand Prix returns this year just in time to celebrate its 50th anniversary. Join the celebration as cyclists take a journey down a redesigned racecourse that embraces the rich history of our Gastown.

The Gastown Grand Prix (GGP) is a prestigious Canadian Pro 1/2 criterium race with a long and rich history. Many great names in North American cycling have raced in this important event over the years, spurring the Gastown Grand Prix on to becoming one of the most popular one-day bike races in North America.

Symphony of Expressions

Studio XYZ, 329 Carrall St | June 22nd to July 23rd | 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM

Studio XYZ present Symphony of Expressions, a group exhibition featuring 22 works by 6 artists: Daniil Alikov, Mike Bock, Natalie Reynolds, Danielle Bobier, Katherine Duclos, and Collin Patrick.

The six artists chosen for this exhibition present their individual understanding of new patterns of abstraction, challenging and evolving what has been considered “traditions”, and some even endeavor to break the long-existing estrangement between fine art and industrial design.

Space Traveler: Hajime Sorayama

CICA Vancouver, 228 Abbott St | July 20th to September 16th

CICA Vancouver is thrilled to announce the highly anticipated solo exhibition of renowned Japanese artist Hajime Sorayama, taking place at CICA Vancouver from July 21st to September 16th, 2023. This exhibition will showcase Sorayama’s captivating and thought-provoking artworks, exploring the intricate relationship between artificial intelligence (AI) and humanity.

Sorayama’s iconic superrealistic cyborg imageries have sparked discussions worldwide and have inspired fellow artists and filmmakers, including Alex Garland on “Ex Machina”, and Paul Verhoeven on the 1987 “Robocop”.
