How long have you been in the industry?

14 years.

What did you do before you were a hairstylist?

Working in retail.

What is it that you love so much about what you do?

How you can make people feel so good about themselves. My favourite thing is looking up in the mirror and seeing someone with a big smile. You know then that they are happy – that makes me happy.

How would you describe your philosophy behind hair styling?

Work with what you have, and don’t let it control you.

Where do you get your inspiration & ideas?

Seeing the great fashion and trends that are in my surroundings. Being is Gastown is great for that.

How do you keep up with the latest trends?

Keeping an open eye and observing others

What is one tool you cannot live without?

My blowdryer!

What is your biggest hairstyling pet peeve?

When people touch their hair before I finish the blowout [laughs] not really. It is just best to sit and set till totally cooled.

Can you share your best tip for those doing their hair at home?

Patience and use the proper tools and products. Most people don’t and get frustrated. It can be quicker if you do it right and it will look best if done with patience.
