WHISKY WISEMEN HOSTS THIRD THURSDAY

Share good times with good people all for a good cause. Whisky Wisemen is kicking off Third Thursday, a monthly #socialwhisky event, on Thursday, September 17th at Shebeen Whisky House.

Whisky Wisemen events are a fun way to connect with existing friends and meet new people. Whether you come alone or with a group, there is something for everyone, including the city’s best whisky selection at Shebeen (tucked inside the Irish Heather). As always, there is no cover charge and the first 50 people to arrive receive a free ounce of whisky from their partner, Glenmorangie. After that, 10% of your total spend for the evening will go to their YVR Chapter 2015 charity partner, Power To Be Adventure Therapy Society as will $1 from every one of our signature Wiseman cocktails sold.

On September 19th, Sugar Skull Studio is hosting ArtRoots Exhibition, a unique experience with local art, live flash tattoos, friends, fun, and good music. ArtRoots is a grassroots movement organized by Sugar Skull with the sole purpose of supporting local creatives. Show your support for the talented artists of Vancouver and join Sugar Skull this Saturday from 4pm- 11pm.

SALT TASTING ROOM SERVES UP SAN SEBASTIAN EXPERIMENT

Salt Tasting Room has partnered with local specialty food vendor Bosa Foods to serve up San Sebastián-style dining by offering free tapas to hungry guests. 

On a recent trip to Spain, Bosa sourced a variety of high-quality, Spanish delicacies new to most Vancouver palettes. With a little help from Bosa, Salt is bringing a taste of this delectable foodie culture to Vancouverites, offering free tapas to patrons of the restaurant – just as they’re offered in tapas bars all over Spain.  

Curious foodies who are ready for a taste of San Sebastián can visit Salt Tasting Room, now until October 11, from 3-6pm. Parched patrons can order a tasting flight or glass of wine, beer or sherry, and enjoy complimentary tapas to sample Bosa’s new Spanish product line.

BURO COFFEE OPENS ON WATER STREET

Buro, a new espresso bar has emerged at the gateway of Gastown. Nestled inside the historic Holland Block, the corner cafe takes inspiration from the French word, bureau, providing a chic meeting place to socialize, plan and make things happen. Coffee is made from Kold Electronic Grinders that run on reduced heat, perfect for anyone who likes a hint of floral in their cup.

Come down and check out Gastown’s newest coffee shop. Buro is open seven days a week at 365 Water Street.

NOTTURNO UNVEILS NEW MENU FOR FALL

Fall has finally arrived. And with that, comes a new menu at Notturno. This month, the Italian boite celebrates the fall season with savoury new additions like mortadella double down with taleggio, marsala onions and spicy ‘Nduja tomato sauce.

Behind the bar, you can expect to see a heavy focus on whisky. Bartender H has created an original set of tipples including The Worobec with American rye whiskey, Mezcal, lemon juice, bacon and apple tart syrup, salt, apple foam, house made mature cheddar dusting and smoked hickory bacon vapour.

Look out for Notturno’s September edition of their monthly wine dinner series. On Monday, September 21st, Chef Robitaille is taking guests on a culinary journey to Rome. More menu details and pricing to come, but if you’d like to reserve your spot early, call Notturno at 604-720-3145.

SOFT PEAKS ICE CREAM LAUNCHES NEW MILKSHAKE MENU

Did you hear the good news? Soft Peaks has launched a new milkshake menu! Brothers, Dan & Ken Kim, have perfected their milkshake recipes with six flavours (original, chocolate, caramel latte, vanilla, coffee and matcha), each made daily from scratch.

Just like their soft serve recipe, milkshakes are made with organic Avalon Dairy milk, and sweetened with natural ingredients, like B.C. honey and freshly pulled espresso, all carefully selected by Dan & Ken. Milkshake flavours will be offered on a monthly rotation, except the ‘original’, which will be available all year round. Chocolate will be the first monthly special – swing by for a taste!

On Wednesday, September 16th, Guilt & Co welcomes Cory Weeds to the stage. The tenor saxophonist is one of Canada’s most significant jazz impresarios, documenting unsung jazz heroes with an expressive sound rooted in tradition. Weeds was also the founder and owner of Cellar Jazz Club in Vancouver. Catch him live in action at 9pm.
