Written by Gastown Admin
Truvelle Bridal 2015 Collection Launch
Based in the heart of Gastown, local designer Gaby Bayona of Truvelle is launching her new 2015 bridal collection on Thursday, September 25th. Hand made, and locally sourced right here in Vancouver, Truvelle is a local bridal line for the effortless, unconventional bride. Truvelle is proud to operate completely in house – with production, design, and administration all carried out within their Gastown studio. The new collection continues to blend Truvelle’s refined aesthetics with the signature elements we’ve seen from Truvelle’s debut collection featuring a dress with dip dyed lace, which Gaby has done by hand, as well unexpected shimmer featured on another gown. The new collection can be viewed as of Thursday, September 25th and tried on by reaching out to info@truvelle.com for an appointment.
Real Owls are back at Parliament Interiors
The owls (yes, real live owls) from O.W.L. Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society are once again swooping into Parliament 10am-2pm on Saturday, October 4th. Get a good peek at their cute little beaks and ask them questions (their handlers will likely be the ones to answer). Buy any owl-related items while the Strigiformes are in-store and Parlianment will give the organization a portion of the sales.
Spirit Wrestler Exhibition
Wero: Pacific Challenge is a remarkable exhibition hosted at Spirit Wrestler Gallery celebrating their 15th anniversary of representing Māori art by three leading Māori artists from Aotearoa (New Zealand): Rex Homan, Lewis Tamihana Gardiner, and Todd Couper. These artists have acted as ambassadors for Māori art in North America for many years and have shared their incredible journey of art, knowledge and friendship. The exhibition is on now until Saturday, Oct 11th.
Tattoos for a Cause
If you’re itching for new ink, now is perfect time. For the entire month of October, local tattooist Stuart Teekasingh is raising funds in honour of National Breast Cancer Awareness month. For those who want a traditional Americana tattoo – or if you’d like to have traditional work that is related to breast cancer (ie: pink ribbon), Stuart will donate a portion of the cost (30% of traditional Americana and 70% of breast cancer-related tattoos) to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. This includes both pre-drawn work and new custom art. To support a great cause and have custom work by a local artist, you can contact him by phone at 604-366-7771, or email your ideas to Stuartteekasingh@gmail.com.
A Night of ‘The Classics’
Let the games begin! The Irish Heather is hosting The Classics, a night of trivia, beer & fish fry on Thursday October 2nd from 630-9pm. For the trivia portion, the Irish Heather will host ten teams of four players per team. Successful applications will receive a free beer upon arrival and a complimentary meal of beer battered fish and chips. First, second and third-place teams will receive special prizes courtesy of the Heather Hospitality group. Email reso@irishheather.com to request an application form and sign up for a fun night with a competitive edge.
