THINGS TO CHECK OUT THIS WEEK IN GASTOWN
Written by Gastown Admin
PEEK INSIDE THE NEW EGO CLOSET
After a few weeks of renovations, Ego Closet has returned with a new look. The closet has been revamped with neon signage, vintage-inspired lights and fixtures to showcase their collection of edgy fashions. Ego Closet has also upped the ante with new collections by emerging street-inspired labels from Australia, UK, and Korea.
BLACKTAIL HOSTS #FORTHELOVEOFGAME
On March 19th, Blacktail invites guests to experience an unforgettable evening of gastronomic adventure, as Chef Geoff Rogers of Blacktail (Vancouver), Chef Nick Nutting of Wolf in the Fog (Tofino), Chef Cam Dobranski of Brasserie and Wine Bar Kensington (Calgary), Chef Murray McDonald of Fogo Island Inn (Newfoundland) and Chef Scott Vivian of Beast Restaurant (Toronto) sharpen their knives for ‘The Love Of Game’ dinner. These Canadian culinary masterminds join forces to create a one-time-only six-course menu with an exclusive focus on game meats, matched with cocktails, craft beer and local wine pairings.
Guests will experience an inventive and cutting-edge menu, as these leading chefs bring their distinct styles and favourite regional flavours to the table. To begin, guests are welcomed with canapés and a cocktail at Blacktail Lounge, and then make their way upstairs to the dining area. The five chefs then present one course each, showcasing their region’s finest wild bounty. For a sweet finish, the chefs will combine their creative power to create a buffet spread of tantalizing desserts.
A portion of ticket sales will be donated to Food Banks Canada, which helps support a network of over 500 food banks across the country. The organization leads national initiatives that assist Canadians in need of essential food, and also finds long-term solutions for hunger that will reduce the need for people to use food banks in the future. ST. PATRICK’S DAY EVENTS
Staying true to its Irish roots, The Irish Heather will host a gathering on St. Patrick’s Day that also celebrates the gastropub’s anniversary since opening 18 years ago. As Vancouver’s only Irish-owned bar, this is the best place to experience authentic Irish culture. Hoist a pint and satiate your appetite on classic Irish fare. Irish pipers and dancers (include owner Sean Heather’s own daughter, Orla) will entertain crowds throughout the evening.
Blarney Stone is already on day four of their five-day street festival. Tonight (March 16), they will host a balloon-drop countdown to ring in the holiday. On St. Patrick’s Day, the 200 Block of Carrall Street will be closed off to make way for a grand street party with live circus, Irish dance and musical performances by Danny Bhoy, The Sheets, Kilarney. Come by for face painting, balloon twisting and party favours at this outdoor event.
For a delicious lunchtime nosh, stop Fortknight. In celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, Fortknight will host a free whisky social lunch, courtesy of Jameson Whisky & Blacktail, from 12pm-1:30pm. More details here.
SIX ACRES CASK NIGHT
On Tuesday March 17th, Six Acres will host its monthly Cask Night with Four Winds Brewing Company. Throughout the evening, they will be pouring Four Winds “La Maison”, a 100% Brett Trois fermented “Grissette” (light saison) that’s been lovingly brewed with spelt and rye and hopped with cashmere.
And, to sweeten, the deal, each cask will have a surprise treat… perhaps a leprechaun? Follow Six Acres on Instagram to stay in the loop with Cask Night details.
