THINGS TO CHECK OUT THIS WEEK IN GASTOWN
Written by Gastown Admin
GASTOWN WELCOMES NEW RESTAURANT, BAO DOWN
Gastown’s newest restaurant, Bao Down, has opened its doors to offer a casual mix of pan-Asian cuisine. Taking inspiration from Chinese bao bars, the new eatery serves up banh mi sanwiches, sisig kimichi fries, salad rolls, and bao-steamed rice buns with delicious meat fillings. The 25-seat restaurant is set to become a bustling lunchtime spot, and also has its own phone charging station and WIFI. Drop by for a quick bite and check out their digs at 12 Powell Street.
CAPPELLERIA BERTACCHI OPENS
If you’re looking for new Italian fashion to add to your closet, check out the new shop on 207 Abbott Street. Boutique, Cappelleria Bertacchi has relocated from Italy to Gastown, and displays a special collection of Italian-made hats (from colourful organza sinamay hats to wool bonnets) crafted by three generations of artisan hat makers.
CAPTURE PHOTOGRAPHER FESTIVAL
In partnership with the Capture Photography Festival, on April 7th from 5 to 7pm, Inform welcomes photographer Jessica Eaton to their 50 Water Street showroom to speak of her work.
Born in Regina, Eaton moved to Vancouver to study at Emily Carr University. The Capture Photography Festival has commissioned her to create a public installation piece to be displayed at the BC Hydro Dal Grauer Substation on Burrard Street (image on the left).
Limited edition prints will be available at the event. Visit the official festival website for complete artist, exhibition, event, and public installation listings. RSVP to info[at]informinteriors.com. Space is limited.
GETTING READY FOR EASTER LONG WEEKEND
If you want to keep things simple for the Easter holiday, send flowers & chocolates as a thoughtful gesture. Since the long weekend is just around the corner, East Van Roasters has prepared Jasmine truffles decorated with Easter motifs and boxed artisan chococlates – and for a limited time, Roger’s Chocolates is carrying Charlie bunny chocolate lolipops and other holiday-themed treats. For a floral bouquet that will stand out, Heather’s the Flowershop creates custom arrangements using locally sourced flowers at a variety of price points, while Olla Flowers uses unconventional fair-trade botanicals and offers small potted succulents.
And, if you’re scrambling to plan a small get-together, check out the list of Gastown restaurants offering weekend brunch service.
BUNNY BALL 2015
On Thursday April 2nd, Blarney Stone will host the 7th Annual Bunny Bash to kick off the Easter long weekend. Come get fluffy and revel in a night of live music from The Deep End, snap a pic inside their photobooth, and ‘dress to the nines’ for a chance to win free prizes. Visit here for more event details.
