GUILT & GO TURNS FIVE

On Tuesday, April 7th, Guilt & Company is set to throw a grand bash to celebrate its five-year anniversary, and will fill the stage with local acts including Star Captains and Bazooka Picnic.

Since opening five years ago, Guilt & Company has made its mark as a vibrant live music venue, gathering some of Vancouver’s best up-and-coming talent to their stage. Join them in celebration and dance the night away with an exciting lineup of musicians of all genres. Entrance is by donation and doors will open at 7pm. Check here for more event updates.

ARTSPEAK x ANTHONY HUBERMAN

Artspeak will welcome Anthony Huberman for a guest lecture on Wednesday April 8th, 7pm, covering thoughts on wall texts, press releases, exhibition brochures and other modes of expression. Anthony Huberman is the director of The Wattis Institute in San Francisco and also the founder of the Artist’s Institute in New York.

VANCOUVER GALLERY HOP

Canadian Art Foundation is hosting the Vancouver Gallery Hop, a series of guided tours of many galleries and institutions in Vancouver.

The Gastown/Chinatown tour takes place next Saturday April 11th, 3:30-5pm. Led by artist, Howie Tsui, the talk & tour takes guests on a tour into Artspeak’s Invernomuto, and Gallery Gachet’s ‘The Right’s to Remain’ exhibition, which features works from Downtown Eastside artists. BAO DOWN OPENS ON POWELL

Gastown’s newest restaurant, Bao Down, has opened its doors to offer a casual mix of pan-Asian cuisine. Taking inspiration from Chinese bao bars, the new eatery serves up banh mi sanwiches, sisig kimichi fries, salad rolls, and bao-steamed rice buns with delicious meat fillings. The 25-seat restaurant is set to become a bustling lunchtime spot, and also has its own phone charging station and WIFI. Drop by for a quick bite and check out their digs at 12 Powell Street.

If you’re looking for new Italian fashion to add to your closet, check out the new shop on 207 Abbott Street. Boutique, Cappelleria Bertacchi has relocated from Italy to Gastown, and displays a special collection of Italian-made hats (from colourful organza sinamay hats to wool bonnets) crafted by three generations of artisan hat makers.

Claire Mortifee & the Mothership will take the stage at Guilt & Company on April 12th. Flowing through a soundscape of r&b, soul, hip hop and unique vocals, the group takes future soul to the next level. Entrance is by donation, with half of proceeds going to Vancouver Native Health Society.
