You’ll definitely want to put this in your calendar. Red Bull Tour Bus is hitting the road for a summer concert series across Canada with Dine Out Records. They will be kicking off their nationwide trip in Gastown this Saturday May 16th
Setting up camp in Maple Tree Square (where Water Street meets Carrall), the ’67 GM transit tour bus will transform into a sound stage showcasing up-and-coming acts starting at 3pm. James Vincent McMorrow will be headlining the event. Alberta Cross, Dicey Hollow & White Ash Falls will also take the stage.
It’s a free event, so all you need to do is RSVP on the web site here.
PINTS FOR A CAUSE
If you’re heading out for a pint, drop by Lamplighter this month to put your pint towards a good cause. For every Tuesday of this month, Lamplighter is selecting a brewery and putting all proceeds from select beer sales towards the Greater Food Bank Society, The Salvation Army in Canada, and the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre. So, if you’re fan of Parallel 49, be sure to come down this Tuesday May 12th and help support these organizations.
BAMBUDDA DIM SUM
Bambudda is going old school on the weekends. On Friday and Saturday evenings, Bambudda is bringing back traditional dim sum cart service. Instead of the standard small plates, they will be serving up BBQ pork buns and a mix of nouveau Chinese cuisine.
FLUEVOG DAY IS COMING
Every year on May 15th, Fluevogers around the world get together to celebrate International Fluevog Day. It combines the excitement of New Year’s Eve and the fellowship of St. Patrick’s Day into one ultimate celebration of unique soles for unique souls.
On this day, Fluevog stores celebrate with festivities and surprises galore prompting many to dub May 15th the greatest shoe shopping day of the year. Interestingly, and non-coincidentally, May 15th also marks the birthday of one Mr. John Fluevog. Come celebrate at the Gastown flagship located at 65 Water St.
NICOLE BRIDGER SHOP & SHOW
Nicole Bridger is the latest retailer to move to Gastown. Her designs emulate timeless style and are made using ethically-sourced materials. After the recent devastation in Nepal, where Nicole Bridger’s knits are manufactured, the team is stepping in to raise funds. Join them for a summer Shop & Show this Thursday May 14th, where 15% of all clothing sales from the event will go towards the Canadian Red Cross in support of the earthquake relief.
JOIN THE #BOUTIQUELOVE PARTY
Garmentory’s #BoutiqueLove tour is making its last stop at One of a Few this Wed May 13th from 5-9pm at One of a Few. The fashion media preview features a pop-up shop with Vancouver artisans Reassembly, Woodlot and Lissu, and a meet and greet with Garmentory’s co-founder, Adele Tetangco. Nibbles and sips will be available for all. If you’d like to attend, please RSVP to rsvp [at] garmentory.com by May 11th.
UN QUIET BODIES EXHIBITION
If the week calls for some visual inspiration, check out the Un Quiet Bodies exhibition at Gallery Gachet. Running now until May 25th, the showcase features new works by Aja Rose Bond & Chandra Melting Tallow, which delve in the complex realities of trauma and survival. Going deep into themes of self-preservation in today’s “able-bodied” society, this exhibition is sure to cover some interesting ground.
