THINGS TO CHECK OUT THIS WEEK IN GASTOWN
Written by Gastown Admin
THE GASTOWN GRAND PRIX RETURNS THIS WEDNESDAY NIGHT
Head down early to claim your spot on course for this year’s Gastown Grand Prix. With Cordova and Water Street closed to traffic, there’s plenty of places to get a glimpse of the action, but the best are usually the start / finish line by the Steam Clock and the hairpin turn at Richards. The event gets underway at 5pm with the youth getting a chance to warm up the track for the pros. The women hit the cobblestones at 6:15pm and the men at 7:30pm. And when the race is done, there are plenty of places to celebrate with nibblies, cocktails and dessert.
GET A HI-FIVE AT NOON
Gastown’s secret sandwich shop is now open for lunch. Hi-Five is serving their signature and humorously named grilled cheese sandy’s (like the Cheddie Vedder or the Melter Skelter) between 11:30am and 2:30pm from Tuesday to Friday. There is also a daily salad feature and seasonal fruit slushies that are sure to cut through this heat wave. The address is 22 East Cordova, but if you can’t find the magic window, just walk a few paces east of Carrall on the south side of Cordova.
AESOP IS NOW OPEN
Australian apothecary, Aesop, is now open at 19 Water Street (right next to Secret Location). With skin, hair and body care products, each store is unique, often executed by a local design studio to create a one-of-a-kind space. Step into the space and you’ll be wowed by the use of wood. Stay a little longer for a consultation, and you’ll leave a convert.
GOT THREE FRIENDS WHO COULD USE A PUNCH?
Take them to Pourhouse for their new punch bowl cocktails. Feature concoctions will run periodically through the summer as batches are available and it’s a four-person minimum, so you’ve got to bring your friends.
DON’T FORGET…
Voting is now open for the Georgia Straight ‘Best of Vancouver’. Show your support for our hood by casting a few for your favourite Gastown restaurants and retailers. The Gastown community is filled with hidden gems that are both proudly independent and passionate – and offer something you won’t find anywhere else. At every corner, you can discover coveted threads, world-renown coffee, and local cuisine served by the hottest restaurants.
