Embrace Colour
Inform Interiors
Walking past Inform Interiors at 50 Water Street, you will notice that the window displays are framed with the iconic blue arcs that Hockney used in his Los Angeles swimming pools (see: Taschen’s David Hockney: A Bigger Book). Inform has injected pops of colour into the displays and placed greenery throughout, creating playful yet elegant settings.New Collections
Inuit Gallery
“Welcome to the World” – a collection of drawings by emerging artists from Cape Dorset
Now until August 2
The Inuit Gallery is pleased to present “Welcome to the World,” a collection of drawings by emerging artists from Cape Dorset. These artists have benefited from the remarkable production up to now, and have taken inspiration from their elders, surroundings, and the everyday realities of life in the Arctic. Among the work available are new drawings by Qiatsuq Ragee (b. 1966) who until recently worked exclusively as a carver. Qiatsuq’s work is strongly graphic and a bit quirky, somewhat reminiscent of Kanangank Pootoogook’s animal drawings, as can be seen in his Falcon and Owl Playing Tag.
Boxes, Baskets and Bowls: The art of abundance from the Northwest Coast
Now until August 2
Along with the collection of Northwest Coast masks, panels and paddles, the Inuit Gallery has put together a fine collection of carved and painted bentwood boxes, feast bowls and baskets. These traditional forms by artists such as Joe David, Luke Marston, David Boxley, Isabel Rorick and Richard Sumner, demonstrate the ingenious technologies developed by First Nation artists and how they have been adapted into spectacular contemporary works of art.
