ALVAREZ LANDS AT MOSQUITO
Chef Jefferson Alvarez joins the Mosquito team this weekend, creating ‘pinxtos’ (Basque-style snacks) to complement the existing champagne and cocktail program. Alvarez was recently at Secret Location before venturing out with creative pop-ups around the city. Before coming to Vancouver, the Venezuelan-born phenom sharpened his knives in Toronto, New York, Philedelphia and Spain. In addition to snacks, Alvarez will be working on a weekend brunch menu for Mosquito. Hooray!
ADVENTOURS HIT THE STAGE AT GUILT
It’s a new series at Guilt & Co, born out of the #ThisIsNotABand nights, and we’re kind of excited about it. On February 20th at 9:30pm, an array of Vancouver musicians will take the stage for an evening of creative musical exploration, where magic is born and shared. This week’s theme is 90’s jungle / drum and bass / electronic, featuring Kyprios, Ali Siadat (of Mother Mother), JC Thompson, Ashleigh Eymann & Andrew Braun of Rococode.
HAVEN STOCKS TOKYO-BASED, WACKO MARIA
If satin, reversible jackets are your thing, head straight to Haven and check out the new Wacko Maria collection. Among the cult label offerings is an intricately embroidered piece designed in collaboration with avid vintage collector Takuji Mikita.
THE COUCHES OF GASTOWN
It’s the first IG takeover for 2016 and promises to be a whole lot of fun. Mitzi Figueroa has control of the @MyGastown account this week and is planning a couch tour of the hood. Show her some like!
VOICES AT GALLERY GACHET
Head to Gallery Gachet this Saturday for a casual afternoon with the artists behind Voices of the Corridors. This currated exhibition features collective members engaging in themes of contemporary disability and mental health activism. On February 20th at 2pm, they will lead a walk-through, talking about their work and process as they lead you through the gallery.
