THIS WEEK IN GASTOWN

POURHOUSE UNVEILS NEW EATS

There’s been a major menu overhaul at Pourhouse – the first one since they opened their doors five years ago. Decadent small plates include panko crusted Crispy Fried Cheese with a housemade curry ketchup and Octopus with Smoked Potatoes. Pork Shoulder, Gnocci with a venison Bolognese and Ling Cod are all on the entrée list, alongside a hearty Beef Cheek Bourguignon. Executive Chef JC Poirier and Chef de Cuisine Kevin Dufva are behind the new dishes.

IT’S GETTING HOT IN HERE

It’s back. The sixth annual Hot Chocolate Festival is on now until February 14th, bringing the city’s best café, bakery and ice cream makers together to duke it out over marshmallows. East Van Roasters is once again in the mix, debuting their creations. This year they’ve got two. I’d recommend starting with #25 – ‘The Buzzz’. It’s a delicious combination of Hives for Humanity Hastings Street honey and Madagascar single-origin drinking chocolate. Then, get decadent with #26 – ‘Peruvian Pick Me Up’. This one features single plantation Peruvian coffee infused in single-origin Peruvian chocolate ganache.

WhiskyWisemen

THIRD THURSDAY

This Thursday marks Vancouver’s 37th monthly #socialwhisky event with the Whisky Wisemen. To celebrate three full years since their inception, they’ll be returning to Shebeen. Founder, Tim Comrode, will be making their official donation to Power To Be, following a successful 2015, and announcing this year’s YVR Charity Partner. The event gets underway at 7pm and everyone is welcome. It’s a great way to connect with existing friends and meet new people. As always, there is no cover charge and all proceeds from the evening will go to the 2016 named charity.

SuperBowlLampSUPERBOWL COMETH

Did you watch that game yesterday? My heart hurts a little for Seattle, but that won’t stop me from making big plans for the annual event. The Lamplighter is hosting a kick ass Super Bowl party and if you want to go, now’s the time to reserve a table.

DID SOMEONE SAY SAKE?

DYK that M.I.A. has a Sake Bar every Friday and Saturday night? Well, now you do. Do it up right and book table service in their private back room until 3am.
