THIS WEEK IN GASTOWN

TEA TIME

I love caffeine and I’ve embraced the coffee culture that literally seeps through the walls in Gastown. But, truth be told, my heart belongs to tea and that’s why I’m pretty stoked about the arrival of The Capilano Tea House. They’ve opened their doors a few times this month for special events and today, they make it official. Located at 221 Abbott Street, they are serving up plant-inspired bevvys with a distinctly Vancouver flavour. The Capilano is owned and operated by Michelle and Paisley Nahanee, a mother-daughter duo from the Squamish Nation, who infuse the traditional teachings of their family into everything they do.

SaltTasting

ITALIAN GAS STATION EATS

Yes, we’re serious. Salt Tasting Room is taking the meat & cheese-rs on an adventure inspired by long time friends, Urbani Foods. The ‘Italian Gas Station Experiment’ may sound like a horrible mistake, but the reality is that European roadside treats are very different than the hot dog and bag of chips were used to. Guests ordering a glass, flight or bottle of wine will be able to sample free Italian tapas, including Venetian Tea sandwiches, Arancini Risotto balls and a variety of sausages. The Experiment runs daily from 4-6 through the month and you can make reservations here.

LEARN TO LAP DANCE

Layer up (because you’re going to be taking some of it off) and head to Tantra Fitness on Water Street for a step-by-step workshop on pulling off a Valentine’s Day lap dance. Tammy Morris will be teaching a two-hour session that’s open to both members and guests. No experience is necessary. Check it out here

AN ARTIST’S TALK

Kickstart Disability Arts & Culture and Gallery Gachet are collaborating on a series of artist talks. The first features three painters – Yuki Goodman, Zola & P. Thomas Wood. Each are at different stages in their creative career and will share a variety of experiences, presenting images and introducing their work while engaging in discussion with Kickstart’s Artistic Director, Yuri Arajs. A question and answer period with the audience will follow. Find out more here.

CloughLamp

DONUTS & BEER

Two Gastown-adjacent businesses are coming together at Clough Club for a night of donuts and beer. Awesome, right?Postmark Brewing is releasing their newest offering, a Raspberry Ale and have partnered with the Cartems crew to serve up  donuts inspired by the brew. Things go down on Wednesday night starting at 7pm with the Clough Club team mixing beer cocktails to round out the affair. You can find out more here – and hands up for whoever created the graphics for this event. That’s some old school genius right there.
