The Vancouver Design Week(end)

May 13 & 14th

Show Your Work, Share Your Talent and Explore Gastown Design in New Ways.

From May 13th to 14th, a number of Gastown’s bustling creative studios and spaces will open their doors to the public. Get engaged, be enlightened, and find inspiration as designers across disciplines share their compelling creations.

Timbertrain Coffee Roasters Tastings Event

Saturday May 13th
11am and 12 noon tastings at 311 West Cordova Street
$10 Register

Timbertrain Coffee Roasters will be performing a professional cupping of a selection of in house hand-roasted coffees. These coffees will be from a wide variety of countries, regions, varietals, and altitudes, and will demonstrate a range of tasting notes and flavours.

The event will also include a class on how to cup coffees, the purpose of cupping, and lessons on roasting and brewing. Perfect for coffee geeks and new fans alike.

Nicole Bridger – Open Studio and Lecture

Saturday May 13th
7-8 pm at 14 Water St

Nicole will speak at 7pm on their brand philosophy and design principles. Drinks, nibbles and good conversation. Guests will also receive 15% discount to shop.

 

Segev LLP Offices – Open Building

Saturday May 13th
1-4pm at 310 – 318 Homer Street

Executed in two phases, Carscadden worked with Segev LLP to convert what was previously an open design studio to a series of discrete offices that – wait for it… still felt like an open design studio. The program brief in this respect was a function of the often private and sensitive nature of legal work, and the young firm’s ambition to not communicate the 19th Century feel that many law offices do.

The Cygnus Design Group – Open Studio

Saturday May 13th
1-4pm at 606-318 Homer St

We are a multidisciplinary design firm, specializing in Architectural, Interior, Urban, and Industrial Design. On your visit to our studio you will get to meet the brains behind the programs we execute, see some of our work, and perhaps get a hands on understanding of what it takes to work on projects that bridge a variety of practices to create memorable experiences. Of course, some yummy treats and tunes will be had.

Leckie Studio – Open Studio

Leckie Studio Architecture + Design Inc. is an interdisciplinary design studio based in Vancouver, Canada. The studio was founded in 2015 by principal architect Michael Leckie.

We engage in the practice of design across a variety of scales and media – including architecture, interiors, installations, and product design. Our design process is committed to a rigorous process of discovery – the core of the practice relies on a deeply-rooted fascination with the act of making.

Bailey Nelson Pop-Up Store At Lululemon Lab.

For the next few weeks, Bailey Nelson Eyewear will be in store at the lab, showcasing their latest designs. Bailey Nelson’s new Gastown location will be opening within the next few months at  202 Carrall Street.

THE ANXIETY SHOW, a new dark comedy show by Megan Phillips (Not Enough, Breaking Velocity) explores different mental health disorders each time, as told by comedians who also experience them firsthand. The first half features stand-up, sketch, storytelling, and music; and the second half is open-mic style to give audience members the chance to share their own stories.
