About The GBIS

As the GBIS, we represent over 500 businesses and property owners in our 12-block radius. We plan, promote, and provide a ton of services to our members and the greater community. This includes public safety, events, placemaking, and so much more. In true Gastown nature, we are one of the oldest BIA’s in the city (also making us one of the wisest in the game). We are a catalyst for positive change, helping to address broader planning, economic and social initiatives – all with an influential voice. Partnerships are also an integral part of our success.

We are one of 22 BIA’s in Vancouver and get along extremely well with all of our neighbours. You would most likely recognize our stellar staff as we are boots on the ground seven days a week (between our Gastown patrol team and connecting with our community). We live for the vibrancy of this neighbourhood, and breathe for the success of our businesses. Come join us on this adventure.

GASTOWN TOGETHER

Gastown is committed to safety for our members, residents, and visitors.

We provide a community safety patrol team that operates 7 days a week, along with daily street and sidewalk cleaning, graffiti removal, and needle pick-up.

Additionally, there is ongoing collaboration between the DTES community, the GBIS, the City of Vancouver, and other social organizations to deal with complex issues.

To adjust to the evolving demands for safety, the GBIS is constantly looking for new and effective ways to communicate and connect with the community.

Sign up for our weekly member newsletter to stay up-to-date on all safety matters (plus other neighbourhood news).
