Bambo Café has been open in Gastown for over 11 years. A family run business, original owners Azar and Jeff have always been passionate about making fresh, quality food for their customers. The Focaccia bread is house made daily and there are 9 sandwiches to choose from. They make a fantastic Oven Cooked Lemon Pepper Chicken Breast with Pesto Sauce and freshly cut lettuce, tomato, cucumber. Some of the other fine sambo selections include; Authentic Crabmeat with avocado, Smoked Salmon with capers with mascarpone cheese, Veggie with avocado, marinated mushrooms, spinach, & pesto, Black forest ham and mustard and a Tuna melt. Bambo is old world European cooking straight out of the kitchen.
One of Gastown’s favorite haunts, Birds & Beets is like someone telling you about a place in a really cool dream that they had, that then, became a reality. Their sandwiches are amazing. A popular and delicious choice is the Charred Veggies Sandwich (Rotating Seasonally, locally sourced). They have three others to choose from, using locally sourced protein: Turkey Rossdown Farms, Fraser Valley, Pork Johnston’s Farm, Chilliwack, Fish Finest at sea, BC Coast. And for breakfast, try the Avocado & Slow Poached Egg Brioche Sandwich.
Salty Tongue Café is an open plan, big shared table sort of joint. They have breakfast sandwiches and plenty of options for lunch. Choose from tasty numbers such as The Apple Pulled Pork, Irish BLT, Albacore Tuna Melt , Rare Roast Beef, Poor Man’s Burger and a few others. You can also order a Design Your Own sandwich with all sorts of different combinations.
Brioche has been a foodie mainstay in Gastown since 2003. Head Chef and owner, Eduardo Bilardello, brings his Sicilian cooking style with Italian passion and puts it into every dish he serves. Brioche is all about freshness, quality, and most importantly, flavour. Their sandwiches are worth waiting for; made fresh and to order, from daily house made focaccia, sourdough or baguette. They offer Premium Panini’s like Chorizo or Italian Sausage and Wild Mushroom Sauce and The Grilled NY Striploin with Wild Mushroom Sauce. You can also choose from their regular Panini menu with such options as Ham, Brie & Mushroom, Roast Beef & Gorgonzola and Prosciutto, Tomato & Bocconcini.
Smartmouth Café has a lot going for it; great location, warm and inviting interior and amazing food and hot drinks. It’s got a bit of an old school vibe where you take a ticket with your number on it. We recommend The Adult Grilled Cheese, The Apple & Brie Panini or The Smoked Turkey Sandwich. Made fresh to order and always delicious.
Nelson The Seagull is the favorite coffee shop for lots of people; people who know where to find super fresh bread, that’s used to make delicious sandwiches. They have their own bakery in house; you can order and buy bread to take home. For breakfast, they offer Poached Eggs on Buttered Sourdough toast (add avocado to take it to the next dimension). For lunch; choose from CARNIVORE – rare roast beef, cilantro pesto, boerenkaas cheese & mustard, HERBIVORE – hummus, cilantro pesto, tomato, cucumber & artichoke hearts and PLOUGHMAN’S – mango chutney, red onion, boerenkaas cheese & mustard.
