THINGS TO CHECK OUT THIS WEEK IN GASTOWN
Written by Gastown Admin
INFORM INTERIORS WELCOMES BRYAN ADAMS
This Thursday January 15th, Inform Interiors will welcome Bryan Adams to their showroom for a very special engagement from 2:30pm to 3:30pm.
Mr. Adams will be signing copies of his books Wounded and Exposed exclusively. Space is very limited and appointments are required. Order your copies online or if you already own a copy, send us an email at info@informinteriors.com to make an appointment.
Wounded brings to light sacrifice and hardships resulting from war – a difficult subject often shied away from. Exposed is a retrospective of Adams’ portrait and fashion photography and features portraits of friends and colleagues in the entertainment, fashion and art industries, including Morrissey, Ben Kingsley, Amy Winehouse, Michael Jackson, and Mickey Rourke. This book, Adams’ first comprehensive monograph, “exposes” not only unknown facets of his subjects but also the depth of Adams’ photographic faculty.
THE SOCIAL YOGA SERIES
STR/KE MVMNT is drawing a community of movement enthusiasts with active lifestyle offerings, from ‘steezin’ fitness apparel to Paleo-friendly meals, and coffee. This month, they will welcome The Social Yoga for ‘The Apparel Class’, a pop-up yoga series taking place inside their concept retail space.
The Social Yoga is not your average yoga class – it’s therapy that makes you sweat. The Apparel Class will take place on Jan 13th, 20th, 27th and Feb 3rd, between 7pm-9pm. If you’re interesting in trying an alternative take on yoga, sign up for upcoming series online.
KILT UP FOR BURNS SUPPER
The celebration of Scottish poet Robert Burns is approaching. If you have plans to partake in this special occasion, be sure to stop by House of Maclaren for Scottish attire. The specialty boutique carries made and imported Scottish products including Irn Bru, Treacle Toff, and authentic kilts.
COCKTAILS FOR A CAUSE
Reward yourself for a year well lived or simply raise a glass, just cause. The Whisky Wisemen community is hosting their first Third Thursday gathering in the New Year. If you’re new to the Wismemen community, these events are a fun way to catch up with old friends and meet new faces. There’s something for everyone including the best Whisky selection in all of Vancouver at Shebeen, located inside the Irish Heaher.
Come thirsty and bring a friend. As usual, there is no cover charge and your first whisky glass in complimentary. After that, 10% of your total spent for the evening will go towards Project True, a local non-profit organization raising funds and awareness for disordered eating recovery, as will $1 from every one of their signature Wiseman cocktails sold. Visit here for more event details.
NEW FEATURE DISHES AT NOTTURNO
There’s always something new to try at Notturno. This month, the Italian boite will roll out a new food program with Notturno classics alongside new feature dishes like beef carpaccio, potted chicken livers and burrata three ways. Head over to their website for a preview.
DINE OUT FESTIVAL IS COMING
It’s the most delicious time of the year. From January 16th to Friday February 2nd, locals can taste the flavours of the neighbourhood at the Dine Out Vancouver Festival. This year, 14 Gastown restaurants will participate and offer multi-course menus at $18, $28 and $38. A few newcomers are in the mix, so be sure to check out the list online and book your reservations early.
And if you’re more of a brunch person, there are still tickets available for the Gastown Brunch Crawl. French, Spanish, seafood, café and coffee houses are all on the menu for the first-ever Gastown crawl taking place on Saturday January 17th. Here’s a look at which restaurants will partake in the event.
