This month, we’ve passed the torch to Tanner Johnston, aka @TannerLovesChips, a dashing lad who spends his days on mergers, acquisitions and estate planning for high net worth individuals at PwC. Smarty pants? Most definitely. But, don’t let the tax job fool you. Tanner has an eye for images that we’re kind of obsessed with.
Do you really love chips? And if so, what kind?
I love chips! There is something so satisfying about the crunch of a good chip. That’s why my number one choice is Miss Vickie’s Sea Salt & Vinegar kettle cooked chips – a classic.
What inspired you to get into lifestyle photography?
I have always had a creative side that was somewhat suppressed for the past 10+ years. My job doesn’t really give me the opportunity to express myself creatively and I needed an outlet so I thought I would give lifestyle photography a shot! I am having a blast with it so far.

Phone right now, but that is going to change soon…
You were recently called a ‘man about town’. What do you think makes our town so special?
What can I say, Vancouver is incredible! It’s Manhattan within the mountains, surrounded by sparkling oceans and home to the most unbelievable sunsets. Locals get to experience all four seasons (bundle up with a scarf during the winter, flip flops in the summer, and don’t forget your raincoat. We have incredible farmers’ markets, world class sushi and we are known as Hollywood North (without the paparazzi). What more can you ask for?
Do you live in the city or the suburbs?
I live near UBC and I absolutely love it.
Where in Gastown do you go to find inspiration?
I am not a huge fan of crowds, so I find myself most drawn to Gastown in the early morning when the sun rises. It’s incredibly quiet and beautiful. As far as specific location, I love the view from the top floor of the parkade on the corner of Cambie and Cordova. Its open air, super spacious, and you are almost guaranteed to be the only person up there.
Best place to window shop (or spend some hard earned cash)?
I have to pick two: Kit and Ace (there stuff is just so cozy) and Litchfield.
How about when you need a jolt of caffeine?
My heart belongs to Revolver…
Where do you for a culinary adventure?
L’Abattoir consistently exceeds my expectations. The French influenced West Coast fare paired with the unique ambience keeps me coming back over and over again.
And to celebrate your latest achievement?
Hands down, the Diamond.
Finally, is there anything else about you that we should know?
Nah… I am probably boring everyone to tears by now!
