Extra! Extra! Read All About It.
We are beyond thrilled to be launching the fifth issue of Gastown Magazine; a lifestyle and culture magazine focussed obsessively on the city’s original neighbourhood – Gastown.
One of our tasks at the BIA is to find ways to showcase this diverse and stylish neighbourhood and all of its creative offerings. We invite you to dive into eight pages of Gastown goodness. Covering the fashion, design, pop culture, and craftspeople that drive this neighbourhood.
In this issue, you’ll step inside Nika Design, where heritage leatherwork and meticulous restoration keep the past alive; explore SIISTA Boutique, a modern fashion destination grounded in intention and community; and meet the team at Nine Point Agency, who are rewriting Vancouver’s storytelling playbook from inside a Gastown loft.
We also visit L’Abattoir, a culinary institution celebrating its fifteenth year of shaping the neighbourhood’s dining culture; Herschel Supply Co., the global brand whose flagship continues to anchor its creative identity right here in Gastown; and CICA Art Gallery, the contemporary space pushing artistic boundaries while transforming Blood Alley into a living canvas.
Together, these stories reveal how each business arrived in Gastown, why they’ve invested in this neighbourhood, and how they continue to evolve into the FW2025 season.
The issue also spotlights 25 must-have seasonal objects from Gastown shops—our curated guide to the textures, tools, and treasures shaping the moment.
Starting Nov. 21, Gastown Magazine will be available for free at businesses throughout Gastown. Visit your favourite coffee shops and/or retailers to get your hands on a copy, including:
- Timbertrain Roasters
- Nelson the Seagull
- East Van Roasters
- Cafe Kitsune
- Milano Coffee Roasters
- Birds & The Beets
- Coffee Bar
- Brioche Cafe and Deli
A special thanks to the businesses who offered up their spaces, objects and voices, along with the very talented, and neighbourhood locals, Claudia Schulz, Style Director, and Trevor Brady, Creative Director. We cannot express enough gratitude for all of the support received as we continue to embark on this inspiring endeavour.
This is only the beginning.
