From April 21 – May 31 , Gastown welcomes local tourism and hospitality professionals to the neighbourhood for the 18th annual Tourism Challenge, brought to you by Tourism Vancouver and the Vancouver Hotel Association.
The Tourism Challenge is an annual opportunity for tourism industry professionals to re-educate themselves and enjoy the outstanding attractions, neighbourhoods and world class hotels that our region has to offer, so that they are ready to welcome visitors and share their passion and knowledge about all that our city and region have to offer.
As old as Canada itself, Gastown is Vancouver’s original neighbourhood. Today, our heritage buildings are home to independent fashion boutiques, impeccably curated décor shops, one-of-a-kind galleries and some of the best culinary fare in the city.
Receive your stamps by completing the scavenger hunt, and answering the questions. When you have correctly answered all 5 questions (below)– please visit one of our 3 stamping stations:

GASTOWN TOURISM CHALLENGE 2018 SCAVENGER HUNT CLUES & QUESTIONS
WATER STREET:
Clue: Le Magasin, located at 332 Water Street is an important heritage building in Gastown. On the outside of the front of the building there is a row of silver faces depicting Gastown entrepreneurs from the 1970’s. You need to look up – they are above the store windows. How many faces are there?
Bonus clue: They look like this! And they are outside – NOT INSIDE.
Clue: At 321 Water Street, there is a little alley that leads to Al Porto Restaurant. On the building wall facing Al Porto’s alley entrance there are some windows. How many windows have vases in them?
Look for these:
MAPLE TREE SQUARE:
Clue: Gassy Jack’s Statue is located in Maple Tree Square. The plaque on the statue tells the story of Gassy Jack. It also gives you the date the statue was dedicated to the City of Vancouver. What is that date?
POWELL STREET:
Clue: Rodney’s Oyster Bar is located at 52 Powell Street. At the entrance to the restaurant, Rodney’s has a window display. Name any 3 items in that window.
CORDOVA STREET:
Clue: The Cordova Street entrance is where Homer, Cordova & the alley and where EVO Car Share is located. On the outside of the front of the building there is a row of silver faces depicting Gastown entrepreneurs from the 1970’s. You need to look up – they are above the store windows. How many faces are located on this side of the building?
