May is mom’s month, so we shared a few ideas on where to go to give her a little Gastown this year and someone recognized one of the shoppers in our Orling & Wu pic. Insta-famous! Then, we turned our account over to the latest neighbourhood insider – Christy Lum. With an eye for the minimal, she uncovered subtle details within our retail spaces. There was a distinctly quiet beauty to each shot, including this one of Jean-Pierre taking an afternoon nap at Old Faithful Shop.

Many metro-van residents head out of the city for the May long weekend, but those who stuck around this year were treated to a free outdoor concert in Maple Tree Square. The event was engineered by Dine Alone Records and the Red Bull Tour Bus, bringing Ireland’s James Vincent McMorrow to Gastown. The Hotel Europe played backdrop as thousands of people gathered to take in the tunes. White Ash Falls (right) were captured on stage by Pamela Saunders, as the event kicked off.

We scooped this shot by the Revolver team on a frustrating Friday. That face. Love it. And then went on to welcome an intriguing new restaurant to the hood. Chef Stefan Hartmann is behind Vancouver’s latest fine dining establishement. Bauhaus soft opened this month and is already getting rave reviews.

After weeks of amazing weather, we had a little rain early this week to remind us that this is still Vancouver, land of liquid sunshine. It was also the start of Bike to Work Week (it always rains for this worthy event) so we brightened the day with a flashback photo from the 70s thanks to the folks at Global Relay. Save the date for this year’s Gastown Grand Prix – July 15th

You can follow us on Instagram here and stay tuned next week for our #JuneJaunts. We’ll be doing a block-by-block tour of Gastown, where to shop, where to eat and what to watch for on your next visit to the neighbourhood.
