Aprons for Gloves is a non-profit organization started by a group of Gastown restaurateurs to provide community outreach through the sport of boxing. Based in Vancouver’s downtown eastside, the group re-established a boxing program for at-risk women and youth, offering free mentorship and training to individuals who may not otherwise have the resources or support to participate.

To keep the East Side Boxing Club, they are putting the call out to bartenders, servers, managers, and owners from the restaurant community willing to fight toe-to-toe with each other for a night of boxing inside the Restaurant Rumble ring. Before the Rumble, each fighter will undergo intensive weekly training at the gym and commit to raising $2000 each by event day to support Aprons for Gloves.

Becoming a contender is a transformative experience. In three months time you will be in the best shape of your life, raise money for a worthy cause and be enthralled in a new community of healthy, determined and fun Vancouverites.

This is not for the faint hearted, but if you’re up for the challenge, tryouts for this year’s Restaurant Rumble take place on Sat May 2nd from 10am-3pm, and Sun May 3rd from 12pm-5pm, at their new gym space at 238 Keefer Street.
