Made in Vancouver

Everyone is encouraged to wear tweed, but you can opt for a less formal outfit by pairing a dark blazer with a classic Chino pant. Chinos are stylish and provide enough room to cycle in comfort. Motherland’s got all the menswear essentials including tailored oxford shits and chino pants. Their in-house label, National Standards is fashionable, easy to wear and move around in – and almost everything is designed and manufactured in their Vancouver studio.

Layer with Wool

With Vancouver’s unpredictable weather, a chilly or rainy ride might be ahead of you. It’s best to wear a cozy combination of wool to keep you warm – perhaps a newsboy cap paired with cashmere gloves and wool-blended scarf? Get fancy with a fringed rectangular scarf, or don a wool plaid sweater like the Sacai Plaid Pullover found at Roden Gray.

An Old Fashioned Touch

To make your outfit into your own, mix and match vintage-style accessories. You can embrace the throwback gentleman’s look by rocking a pocket square styled with cross-back or Y-back suspenders. For dapper men’s accessories, Alfie Italia expresses the art of sprezzatura with a curated selection of paisley and printed silk pocket squares, made in Italy.

There’s plenty of classic womenswear styles to experiment with. Ladies can veer towards classic staples like an elbow-patch blazer and pleated skirt, or play up their femininity with a ruffled blouse and wide-legged trousers.  The options are endless at Community Thrift & Vintage – and the great thing about going retro is finding a treasure for a bargain.

Put a Bow on It

fortknightbowtie

The tweed ride is the perfect occasion to rock a dapper looking bow. Men’s lifestyle shop, FortKnight Boutique has an exclusive collection of wool, plaid, and satin bow ties that are pre-tied and handcrafted locally by Vancouver-based brand, Beaux Ties. For ties that will make you stand out from the crowd, check out Cor sine labe doli’s handcrafted ceramic ties at Secret Location.

A classic necktie is also fitting for this occasion and will look fantastic under a button up vest or paired with suspenders. You can find skinny and wide ties in cotton, silk and seersucker fabric at menswear shops, Neighbour and Roden Gray.

Messenger Style

Choose a leather or waxed cotton bag in case there’s impromptu rain. A cross bag should be a go-to choice for function and style. It’s classy and provides easy access when you’re on the go. Montreal-based brand, M0851 offers a fantastic collection of cross body leather bags. The PM32 is a great messenger-style flat bag designed with interior double leather organizer patch.

Les Chausettes

Chafing is seldom stylish. The tweed ride stretches across the city, so it’s important to wear a pair of comfortable, high quality socks. Neighbour carries fine Italian and European-made wool blend socks. The Chauncey 3 Stripe dress sock is knitted with superfine cotton-poly blend that is lightweight, durable and perfect to wear while biking around the city.

The Classic Oxford

Bradenburg

For a comfortable dress shoe, you can’t go wrong with a classic brown oxford. We had our eye on Granville and Bradenburg, two new fall arrivals found at John Fluevog. Contrasting leather and suede details of Bradenburg make for a unique statement, while keeping the old-fashioned brogue style at the forefront. Rowan Sky stocks brown lace-ups by Ted Baker and a collection of handcrafted shoes by Bed Stu. All of these styles are definitely worthy of wearing (and pedaling in) at this year’s ride.
