‘A Dining Journey’ kicks off on January 5 and runs through to March 21, featuring cuisine from Spain, Italy, France, Asia, Persia and South America.

Executive Chef, Jefferson Alvarez, has been working in the Vancouver culinary scene for four years, joining Secret Location in 2013. His tasting menus offer three, five or ten courses that give the diner an innovative and experimental experience. From January through March, Alvarez will be joined in the kitchen by famed chefs, creating ten regional dishes for guests to enjoy.

January – Chef Pino Posteraro
Chef Pino was born in Italy and studied the culinary arts in Europe under his mentor, Armando Zanetti. After working in several restaurants across Europe and Singapore, he settled in Vancouver and opened Cioppino’s Mediterranean Grill in Yaletown. Year after year, the establishment earns top honours as one of Vancouver’s best fine dining restaurants.

February – Chef Angus An
For Chef Angus, a fine arts degree at the University of British Columbia led to enrollment in New York’s prestigious, French Culinary Institute. Upon graduation, he moved to Montreal and then on to London, developing a talent for dishes that boast both complexity and simplicity. Working in several Michelin-star establishments, including Thai restaurant, Nahm, Chef Angus learned to layer and balance intense flavours. He now runs Maenam with his wife Kate.

March – Chef Hamid Salimian
Born in Iran, Chef Hamid grew up on the edge of the Caspian Sea. Having held executive positions at the Victoria Westin Bear Mountain, Westin Wall Centre and Diva at the Met, Chef Hamid has been named ‘Best Chef in the City’ by the Georgia Straight. Today, he acts as culinary consultant for national brands, such as Earls Kitchen + Bar and as a contributor to The Vancouver Sun, Vancouver Magazine and CTV. He also shares his knowledge with a new generation of chefs as an instructor in the VCC Culinary Arts program.

March – Chef Carlos Garcia
Chef Carlos Garcia hails from one of the world’s 50 best restaurants, Alto (as named by The Diners Club Academy). Located in Caracas, Venezuela, the signature dishes at Alto offer a haven of simple, fresh ingredients and are cooked slowly ‘with respect’. Thumb through the pages of a Lonely Planet guide and you’ll find Chef Carlos lauded for his bold cuisine and vanguard used of local fare.
