Hi everyone! This is Soojung Krystal Jo (Gastown BIA Marketing Assistant) back again to share with you some of my good friends recommendations on great places to eat and drink in Gastown.

Meet my friend Bee. She was my coworker while I was working on the weekends as a server at a Korean BBQ restaurant. She is also one of Gastown’s biggest fans! With her boyfriend, she visited several of the well known restaurants here in the neighbourhood. Rodney’s Oyster House was on the top of her list. Let’s see why!

It’s a fact that shellfish is quite a desirable dish here in Vancouver . Rodney’s Gastown has the freshest and most delicious oysters in the city.  It was a wonderful experience to see the oysters being shucked right in front of us.

If your budget allows,  I would also recommend the lobster. They showed us several live lobsters and let us to pick the one we wanted to eat. A little bit pricey but definitely worth it. Of course Happy Hour is always a cheaper option and still tastes great. Appropriately titled: “Low Tide”, it happens Monday through Saturday 3pm – 6pm and you can get such items as oysters, mussels, clams, garlic shrimp and scallop galette.

My other friend, Eun Ji – also an international student from Korea, works in the same building as I do here on Homer Street. After work, she spends a lot of time in Gastown.

When I asked her for a recommendation for a good bar , she took us all to the Black Frog.

What I liked was that it wasn’t noisy and that I could easily talk with my friends. Our server was really kind and nice, and the price of the cocktails was quite reasonable. I had a double  Gastown Iced Tea and it was only $8!

Another friend of mine, Pearl, was very happy that when she asked for a drink which was not on the menu, the server answered with a big smile and made her this awesome White Russian! In that cozy little bar, we had a really great time while looking out the window at the sights of Gastown and seeing the steam clock puffing away into the night.
