It’s also time to shout out loud, (a long awaited): “PATIO ALERT”! The sun is blazing right now and this weekend’s forecast calls for lots more.

Gastown’s patios are popping up like fresh flowers all over the neighbourhood. We dedicate this post to you, fine aficionados of food and drink. Gastown has it all and this weekend could very well be one of 2016’s finest.

Heading the pack, we have our lively patio down at Chill Winston’s. One of the biggest in Gastown, it’s been open since April fool’s. Chill uses vegetables from their own farm plot in Tsawwassen, alternative proteins & organic wild meats and sustainable ocean fare. Real food, real people, good times for sure.

Along Carrall Street, sit for a while in the half shade, half sun at Ono Raw Bar. Previously operating as Cork & Fin, Ono – Hawaiian for “delicious”, offers an extensive selection of fresh fish flown in daily from the Sea of Japan and the Pacific Ocean. In addition to à la carte options like sushi rolls, nigiri, carpaccio, and skewers, Omakase (the Japanese equivalent of a chef’s tasting menu) are also available.

And oh my! – Where else can you imagine you’d be than in some Mexican dream, while sitting back in the warm fresh breeze, with the strain of distant mariachis embedded in the birdsong, as you semi-siesta on the patio at Tacofino’s Gastown Restaurant. Awesome fresh Mexican cuisine – tacos, burritos, churros, Margarita’s – Oh mi!

Bao Down also has a little streetside “en plein air” for you to hang out in and mow down on their delicious blends of mouth-watering flavours and spices of the Orient with fresh vegetables and proteins of the Pacific Northwest.

So yeah – we have patio’s alright. LOTS of patios. And there are a ton of them open right now. Gastown is the place to be today and all weekend long. The food is excellent down here, the people; fine and friendly and the beautiful sun is truly here to stay.
