The inspiration for Soft Peaks was born from a love of ice cream. Foodies at heart, Dan & Ken left their careers in the business world to follow a shared dream of opening an ice cream shop. In pursuit of the perfect homemade recipe, Ken spent many years testing a combination of ingredients, to create a healthy and original treat.
The result is an all-natural dessert that’s at once thick, creamy, and refreshing. Every day, the pair make a fresh batch from scratch using Avalon Organic milk. It’s gently sweetened, then churned to a rich, creamy consistency. Most will be surprised to learn that the fat content is around half of what’s in typical cream heavy recipes because of its milk base.
A unique array of premium toppings, like yuzu marmalade, organic maple syrup with Himalayan pink salt, or fresh Fraser Valley honeycomb, make it a refreshing dessert to enjoy all year round. Prices range from $4.00-$6.75 – and taking Soft Peaks’ portion size and topping ingredients into consideration, it’s quite affordable.
The brothers feel right at home in Gastown’s food-savvy community. The new ice cream shop is situated inside the historic B.C. Market Company Building at 25 Alexander Street. Formerly home to an architectural office, the 1,000 square foot, two-level space was designed with a rustic, modern aesthetic. The shop has a delightful, old-time feel balanced with natural woods and polished concrete, and decorated with a unique wall installation of vintage milk caps to create a sense of nostalgia.
