We don’t suggest you go out like Morgan Spurlock in Supersize Me but we do have a bunch of solid recommendations on where to get a great burger in Gastown. So much so, that we have broken this post up into two parts. So here’s to Hamburger month – long may the pickles be in your favour!
Let’s start with newly opened Meet – a vegetarian restaurant with 8 tasty burgers on offer. Most notable are the Southern BBQ Burger – a house-smoked burger with whisky bbq sauce,2 crispy onion rings and aged cashew-cheddar cheez and the Mac N’ Cheese Burger, also with onion rings. A delicious add on is their coconut bacon.
131 Water has a unique Stilton Bleu Burger – bleu cheese, bacon, greens & tomato and a Almost Famous Fish Burger – crispy cod & house made tartar.

Chill Winston’s have but two delicious “hand helds” on the menu – Bison Burger with tomato jam, sticky onions, zucchini relish, on a brioche bun and a Veg Burger which is a house-made black bean, rice, & chickpea patty, zucchini relish & caper aioli. You can get it gluten free & vegan without the bun and aioli. Options, ya know?!

Gastown’s Pourhouse has something interesting: you can add a fried egg to either of their burgers – the Pourhouse or the Veggie. It’s actually really good and comes highly recommended. For more Southern style burgers, check out Revel Room’s – Green Chili Cheeseburger with roasted poblanos, onion marmalade, mushrooms, carelmalized onions, hickory bacon, jalapeno bottle caps and cheddar sauce.
At Secret Location, you’ll find their Secret Burger – truffle Pecorino cheese, house made zucchini pickles and salsa rubra while still maintaining its house made burger buns and patty.
There are some good burgers to be found at Six Acres – kickoff this special month of May with some Mini Burgers – 3 delicious cuties or try their Crab Burger – rock crab patty, pickled daikon & carrot, cilantro, chili mayo.

The Black Frog has a great burger with meat options; their MOON BURGER: (Beef, Chicken or Veggie) with melted brie & caramelized onion, garnished with lettuce, tomato, and sundried tomato mayo on a garlic buttered multigrain bun. Water Street Café has been in Gastown for quite a while now and it consistently delivers high quality dishes. They use high quality beef in their Grilled AAA Angus Beef Burger – Canadian cheddar cheese, double smoked-bacon, tomato, lettuce, red onion, tomato jam, frites.
Vera’s Burger Shack has such a selection of burgers with so many options, one could go there a couple times a week during Hamburger Month and still not have gotten through the menu. The have daily specials with 4 burger selections and a Hall of Fame menu with 8 burgers on the list. If you like rap and mushrooms, try G-Money – Double patty, cheddar & fried mushrooms.
