I recently caught up with land lubber, Max Cunningham, marketing manager for the Portside Pub down on 7 Alexander Street. He belted out loud to me, what makes his jolly crew unique along with all the awesome things that the Portside has on board for this spring and summer.
What makes Portside unique?
What makes us special is our maritime pub culture. The Portside is inspired by sailors, fishermen and the families who make their living off the sea. Maritime pubs are decidedly friendly, laden with wood, rope and more wood. As such, the goal with the Portside is to be the friendliest bar in Gastown. Great beer, friendly staff, comforting food, good music and fine people. We have 24 local craft beers that we rotate seasonally to give our guests the best craft beer drinking experience.
Historic Location.
And sure enough, t’was the drink that started it all here in Gastown with John ‘Gassy’ Deighton and his Globe Saloon – a makeshift timber watering hole that the local dockmen built in a day in exchange for a barrel of fine whisky. The Globe stood just steps away from where the Portside is now moored. Indeed, the boisterous, entrepreneurial and raccous spirit of Gastown lives on in the Portside today.
Exciting stuff coming up for this spring and summer?
Every Wednesday the comedic team from Jolly Brain Productions hosts our Rock Paper Scissors night and we’re stoked to grow it throughout the spring/summer.
Where else can you crush, cover, and cut your way to victory on a Wednesday night? Join us each Wednesday on #ThePortside for #RockPaperPortside at 9pm hosted by @jollybrain Productions. We would love to see everyone come out to compete for cash, prizes, and the victors crown.
We are also looking forward to launching a new live indie night this coming May with some amazing local musicians.
This Sandwich, That Beer throwdown is happening again on June 19th where 8 local restaurants pair with 8 local breweries to bring you the best sandwich/beer pairing. And every Friday, we bring in fresh oysters for Buck A Shuck.
All that sounds super fun. Anything else we should know about?
Oh just you wait senor laddie! We have our 2nd Annual Taco Eating Competition in May with live music & food and drink specials. We are actually recruiting for this one!
