SLIM CUT DENIM
You can’t go wrong with tailored slim fit jeans. This fit is a classic and reoccurring style in fall fashion. Menswear shop, Niftydo is stocked with a range of raw selvage denim styles. The ‘Black Maria’ Chelsea denim is a great tapered jean made from a sanforized 14.5 oz selvage sulpher dyed black wrap and weft denim from Collect Mills. The mid rise fit is slim at the leg and tapers from the knee. There’s also rock ‘n’ roll details like bandana pocket bags, American made hardware, tonal stitching, and a black leather patch.
Nouvelle Nouvelle has a few slim fit styles from NEUW denim inspired by a 1930’s work wear jean. This collection of tailored denim is made with 11 oz canvases similar to a 1980’s work wear fabric, with dyed and hand scraped details for a dimensional worn effect.
If you’re eco-friendly inclined, The Block carries Nudie Tape Ted denim made with organic material. Like the name implies, Tape Ted is a tapered fit jean with a high-rise, and low yoke, so you can choose to use it high or low at the hip for a relaxed fit. All Tape Teds are made with stretch denim for comfort and defined fit, and are available indigo, black and pre-washed denim options.
VINTAGE WASH DENIM
There’s something about vintage wash denim that brings out a hip rocker look. Premier menswear shop, Roden Gray has a topline luxury denim selection that includes Chagall Vintage Wash jean by Fabric-Brand & Co, a classic five-pocket denim jean with stitching and paint details in vintage washed Japanese selvage denim. This quality denim is slim fit with a button fly and signature reinforced fabric-lined yoked – all handmade in Japan.
Over at Neighbour, you’ll find thoughtfully curated fashion denim by high end lines like Our Legacy. The First Cut Vintage Wash caught our eye. This pair is made with heavy 12 oz Italian-made denim with a mid rise, straight fit and classic five-pocket design for everyday wear. And these only get better with age, gaining more character with every wear.
Coloured denim is a usually a bold fashion statement, but these Rider Grosgrain Stretch jeans have the casual look of a chino pant but made with denim material – something any man can wear. These Japanese jeans have the ‘cool factor’ with a subtle vintage wash treatment for a worn in aesthetic and functional reinforced waistband and knees for flexibility. You can find a few more styles by the Rider Jeans at Haven and affordable classic fitting coloured denims at Army & Navy.
Since jeans are an everyday item, it’s important to find a pair that is stylish and comfortable enough to bike, commute and move around in. This season, we’re seeing more functional fit denim on the racks like the Levi’s commuter denim series found at dutil. This classic slim straight jean has added features for cyclists including a reinforced crotch, odor and water resistant coating and 3M reflective selvage.
DENIM ON DENIM
The Canadian tuxedo will never go out of style. Layering denim with denim is one of the hippest looks for fall, and Inventory is stocked with a few Japanese made denim work shirts and wool denim outwear. The Sassafras Gardener is a great transition jacket with rugged and durable 14.5 oz denim. This jacket features a button flap pocket and two deep, narrow side pockets with details reminiscent of painter pants for extra utility.
