This month marks the eighth year for Nouvelle Nouvelle in Gastown. Located on Abbott Street, the shop brings together carefully selected clothing and objects for men and women, with a focus on up-and-coming lines.
“We’d been living in the neighbourhood for a long time and loved the low buildings, old architecture and sense of community,” notes Amy. “It’s shifted in so many ways since then, but thankfully it’s (mostly) retained its independent vibe. It’s still our favourite neighbourhood in the city.”
After what felt like an endless summer, Nouvelle Nouvelle is starting the transition to cool weather classics and modern layers.
“We’re already seeing some beautiful Fall/Winter pieces through our doors from Wood Wood, Won Hundred, Sessun and Cheap Monday. We made sure to bring many great layering pieces to get our clients through whatever weather comes our way in the next few months.”
So, what can we expect in the way of trends?
“We’re seeing a shift to longer coat silhouettes, wider pant legs and mock-necks or turtlenecks for both men and women.”
Amy even gave us a few of her ‘must haves’.
“We’re restocked with beautiful, simple watches from Australian line The Horse. They’re unisex and come in beautiful colorways. Bucket hats and wool caps from Copenhagen-based line Wood Wood are also pretty high up on our list.”
Plan to spend a bit of time browsing the shop because there’s plenty to see. Clothing racks line the walls, with apothecary and stationary products on the tables in between. And, don’t overlook the jewelry that’s displayed within the front counter. There are some tantalizing treasures in there, just ask Amy.
“We’re stoked on the tiniest of pearl, opal and 14k gold studs and first knuckle rings from Kristen Elspeth, Catbird and Baleen.”
