This Saturday August 13th, we’ll celebrate the joy of riding a bike to shop, instead of just always taking the car. The free community event is organized by HUB Cycling – a non-profit organization that works towards making cycling better through education, action and events.
This is HUB’s first annual Bike to Shop Day! This one-day event will celebrate cycling for transportation in a new way, by showing how shopping trips by bike can be fun, easy and convenient. On August 13th, ride and shop to local Gastown businesses to join in the fun! Come visit the Gastown Celebration Station on Carrall St (between East Cordova and Water St) with free snacks, drinks, prizes, bike mechanics, and tips on how to carry items by bike. Get involved by visiting our station, stopping at participating stores on the HUB Bike to Shop Passport, joining in one of our themed rides to visit stores that support biking, or simply consider biking to do your daily shopping and show your support!
The designated area will be closed to traffic so you can hang out, explore the different tents and celebrate everything that’s great about cycling. Make sure to look for our GASTOWN BIA table, where we will be giving away free bike seat covers, bike lights and neighbourhood maps.
There are lots of great stores and restaurants in Gastown that are supporting the event.
